Upright

A man grips a pentacle firmly against his chest, another balanced on his head, and two more pressed beneath his own feet — the Four of Pentacles upright is about holding tight to what you've earned, whether money, possessions, or a hard-won sense of stability. It can be positive: someone who invested time and effort into something and now protects the result, carefully guarding what took so much work to attain. But it can also point to excessive attachment — holding so tight that nothing can enter or leave, whether money, affection, or control over a situation that no longer needs such rigidity. The city in the distance, somewhat remote, suggests this security carries a price: staying so closed within your own boundaries ends up isolating you from those nearby.

Reversed

Reversed, the Four of Pentacles is the fear of losing everything you've built — a financial insecurity that lingers even when there's no real reason, or the opposite: someone finally releasing the rigid control over money and possessions. It may signal generosity blooming again after a period of closed fists, or recognizing that material excess was never actually what was missing. (…)
